Whenever students see another article in the Pioneer about parking, they generally know it's not going to be a happy topic. However, this latest article brings bad news mainly to professors and faculty members. The latest "bump in the road" is a proposed fee for the faculty at Pierce College that would help repair and revamp the campus parking lots; mainly the North parking lot.
Technology may be advancing, but some teachers and students may not be ready for the change. The Amazon Kindle allows users to download and read books, magazines, and newspapers. For the older generations it may take some time to get used to flipping through pages on an electronic screen.
It took long enough. Our Pierce College instructors will now be titled "professor." And rightly so. An epiphany struck English Professor Mike Darcher during a conference. Upon returning to the school, he began the charge in changing the name "instructor" to the more reputable name.
It only seemed fitting for the Lakewood Police Department to attend the Pierce College "luau dance" on May 15. After all, gunshots were fired in the parking lot Pierce dances in the '90s. Since then, the attendance of the dances have been low. Someone said that it felt like a middle school dance, no one was dancing, bad music.
If you surveyed the students on the Fort Steilacoom campus asking them: "Do you own an iPod?," I'm sure that the response would be "Yes" from at least 80 percent if not more. Now, if you ask those same students: "What do you use it for?," a majority answer would be for music.
