With the United States' economy still reeling from the downsizing and collapse of the financial, housing, retail, and auto industries more than a year ago, it not surprising that Washington State is struggling with its own problematic economy. The higher educational system will suffer as the state legislature begins tightening its belt on spending.

During January, the technology proposals, totaling $634,441.78 for the 2010-2011 school year, dwarfed the $463,003 allocated budget. Due to proposals being revised or withdrawn by sponsors, the requested amount, as of Feb. 12, dropped down to $486,502.85, but still well over the budget.

Pierce students who have always dreamed of going to Japan get their chance if they sign up for the Japanese study tour in Tokyo this summer. Kazuko Howard, Japanese language instructor will be leading the tour. The experience will include cultural excursions in and around Tokyo and Japanese language classes at Tamagawa University's campus in Machida, 20 miles from Tokyo.
This year's international ambassador is Young Chae La, also known as YC. La is responsible for helping international students become fully involved and contributing to the Pierce College community. This past Fall, he organized the Halloween Dance Party.
