Pierce College's budget was drastically reduced by $3.2 million dollars. For the last few months, the Budget Team met to decide what programs, positions, and people to cut to meet the allotted spending for next year.
Ways of alleviating the cuts were to increase the class size maximizing the number of students in classrooms. This will also cut the frequency of classes in the day and following quarters.
A total of 26 employee positions were eliminated or left open without being filled. The part-time faculty will be the most impacted by the cuts.
Library and Media, Institutional Support, Operations and Maintenance, Military Programs, and International Educations also took slight decreases in funding.
