With winter winds finally fading, spring showers passing, and summer skies rolling in the first question on the minds of most students is, "What should I do with my summer vacation?"

Of course, there are many options to choose from. However, going on long trips away from home is still a popular choice for many students.

"I went to South Korea to visit my family and discover where I come from," student Lei Kapaku said.

Whether it is by land, by sea, or by air, traveling out of state, or even out of country for that matter, is a staple of summer vacations.

But the actual traveling portion of the trip is only a small part of the experience. Vacations provide a chance for bonding for all parties involved.

"The furthest place I went for summer vacation was North Carolina," Student Government Senator Ashley Jackson said. "That place is so beautiful and it's so humid. I had a blast visiting my older sister. All we did was shop all day."

The travelers speak volumes as to the type of experience one can have. Some travel in groups of friends with common interests, others travel with coworkers and best friends just to get away, and some will travel with family members just to be closer to them.

"I would rather go on a trip with friends but it really depends on the place," student Kimberly Poblete said. "When you're around family there's some things you can't do or that's inappropriate. You're not going to go out and experience the night life with your Dad."

Once good company is involved, a summer vacation can be a breeding ground for once in a lifetime moments and unforgettable experiences that burn themselves onto the lips, hearts and memories of zealous story tellers returning from time away.

Some jump off bridges, others dive out of airplanes. Whatever the case may be, going to the edge and peering over it seems to be a common occurrence during the summer months. Even if it's the edge of another country.

"I hope to go to Egypt," Jackson said. "I think the pyramids are so gorgeous and I love Egyptian art. I have always had an affinity to Egyptian art and history."

No matter the destination, the summer months are fleeting and the days drift away quicker than the tides on the warmest shores. Even though classes are out during this time, the summer still provides students with the lesson that the sun is meant to be enjoyed while it is out.

From the mountains to the oceans, from neighboring cities to distant countries, summer is the perfect time to sit back and take in the sights and sounds of a relaxing vacation.
